TIMPEX 2009 Results
Congratulations to Norman Banfield with his exhibit Russia-Censorship Mail 1878-1920 in winning the Grand Award at this exhibition. James Johnstone with The Cross and Numeral Design of Switzerland and its Usage 1882 to 1906 was a very worthy runner-up. This was a very successful exhibition for Timaru, and the organisers are to be congratulated.
61st AGM of Federation
Len Jury was re-elected as President, Bob Gibson as Secretary, and Terry Isaac was re-appointed as Treasurer.
Subscriptions from affiliated clubs
The Federation subscription has been increased for the first time in many years to $3 per member for clubs with more than 15 members, reducible to $2.50 if paid before 31 March 2010. Smaller clubs pay a flat rate of $45, reducible to $37.50 if paid by 31 March. Affiliated clubs should already have received their subscription notice.
NZ Medal of Philatelic Excellence
Jeff Long, the sixth recipient of the top Federation award, received his medal at the TIMPEX Palmares.
Annual Federation Awards
Award of Merit – Patrick Brownsey (Wellington), Colin Larsen (Manawatu), Geoff Tyson (Christchurch)
Philatelist of the Year – Stephen Chivers (Hutt Valley)
Deserving Philatelists – Alan Morgan (Hastings), Charles Lilley (New Plymouth), John Kilpatrick (New Plymouth), Nic Hendy (Auckland), Paul Wales (Christchurch)
Polar Class
This has now been removed as a national exhibiting class from the NZ list, as it seems more sensible for exhibitors to enter the Open class, from where they can exhibit overseas.
