 60th Annual General Meeting of the Federation November 29, 2008

This was held in Christchurch, sponsored by the Airmail Society of New Zealand. Len Jury was re-elected President, Bob Gibson was re-elected Secretary, and Terry Isaac was re-appointed as Treasurer. There were no motions to consider, but Len gave a very full and positive report of the activities of Federation for the 2008 year.

The 2009 Judges Register was approved, a report on the NZ National Philatelic Trust was received, and the Federation awards for 2008 were announced. With an auction being held on the Friday evening, and a promotional day organised by the NZ Stamp Collectors Club on the Sunday, it was a very busy and entertaining weekend.

The 2009 AGM will be held in Wellington on the weekend on Nov 27/28.

Exhibition Classes

NZPF has adopted the following new or amended regulations for judging – approved by FIP at its Congress in Buchurest in June 2008 and effective 1 January 2009.

Traditional;

  • the Special Regulations and Guidelines have been rewritten to clarify certain aspects.

Postal History

  • This class is now divided into three sub-classes: (a) Postal History – routes, rates, markings, usages etc as in the past, (b) Marcophily, and (c) Historical, Social & Special Studies exhibits which examine postal history in the broader sense and the interaction of commerce and society with the postal system. Exhibits in this sub-class may include non-philatelic material where relevant but it must not overwhelm the philatelic material.
  • All Postal History Exhibits will be placed and judged in one of the three time periods irrespective of geographical area: (a) Up to 1875 (pre-UPU) , (b) 1875-1945, and (c) After 1945. Each exhibit fits into the time period where it starts or where its main content lies.

Frugal Class

  • NZPF has approved this class for New Zealand national exhibitions and has adopted the Australian Philatelic Federation rules. These can be viewed on the APF website www.apf.org.au under ‘Exhibition Classes’.
Judging Seminar

To ensure judges are up to date and familiar with changes, a seminar is being held in Palmerston North on 7-8 Mar 2009. Details from [email protected]

 PYC Stamp Youth Camp for 2009

This year the camp will be held at the Blue Skies facilities just outside Christchurch. It runs from Sunday July 12 to Saturday July 18. This is a great development opportunity for young people, both philatelically and personally, or you could volunteer as a camp helper. A lot of fun is to be had! How about your club sponsoring one or more of your junior collectors to attend?
