Tom Lee Resigns

We regret to advise that as the result of increasing health problems Tom Lee has advised his withdrawal from all organised philatelic activities. In consequence Tom has tendered his resignation as a national judge and as delegate to the FIP Youth Commission. We express our thanks to Tom for his involvement with organised philately and note his input will be missed.

NZ National Philatelic Trust

Changes have been made to the trustees for both Federation and the NZ Dealers’ Association. The new appointees are:
Jeff Long and Don Richardson for the Federation
David Holmes and Val Palenski for the NZSDA.

New Zealand Post News

Russell Watson has moved from his role as head of the Stamps Business Unit into the International Consulting Division of New Zealand Post. Viv Beck, General Manager of Communication, has had the Unit added to her portfolio of functions as NZ Post sees stamps as part of their corporate and public image.

Proposed stamp issues and their dates of issue for the balance of 1999 are as follows:
Apr 7 Victoria University Centenary, U-Bix Rugby Super-12
Jun 16 New Zealand art, health
Jul 21 APEC
Jul 28 scenic walks
Sep 8 Christmas 1999
Oct 20 America’s Cup
Nov 17 Millennium part 5, Ross Dependency

Future issues of Focus will include some Federation details and a listing of all clubs by region. These details will be spread over a number of issues.

New Zealand Stamp Collector

Following discussions between representatives of the Royal Philatelic Society of NZ and Federation it has been reaffirmed that the New Zealand Stamp Collector will be the official journal of both organisations. Member societies will in future be sent a copy of the journal and each edition will, in the future, contain at least one page devoted to federation business.

Potential International Exhibition

It has been suggested New Zealand should host an International Exhibition in 2005 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary of our first postage stamp. Federation would welcome any firm proposals on this subject.

1999 Annual General Meeting

The 1999 AGM will be held in Christchurch on the weekend of 20-21 November and will be hosted by the NZ Stamp Collectors’ Club. More details will be forthcoming in a future news release.
